Weddings are stressful. But nothing prepared us for the moment Chloe, our bride and longtime friend, asked us to pay $1,200 each for the bridesmaid dresses she’d picked out without warning.
The dresses were beautiful, sure – lilac chiffon with delicate beading. But when she casually mentioned the price tag at the reception, it felt like a betrayal. “I just assumed you knew!” she said, as if dropping a rent payment’s worth of debt on us was no big deal.
Then, like something out of a sitcom, the universe intervened.
A bakery team arrived with a wedding cake so comically oversized that guests started taking selfies with it. Chloe had mistakenly ordered a 50-kilo monstrosity instead of 5 kilos, and the bill was astronomical. The irony? It cost almost exactly what she’d just asked us to pay.
After some tense conversations (and her dad bailing her out), Chloe finally admitted she’d gotten carried away. We forgave her, mostly because watching her panic over a cake taller than the groom was too funny to stay mad at.
The night ended up being unforgettable – not because of the designer dresses or the Instagram-perfect decor, but because it reminded us all what really matters: friendship, not finances.
