An Elderly Volunteer’s Unexpected Act of Love for a New Father

Life can change in an instant. For Bob Hollis, a phone call turned his world upside down—he was a father, but his wife was gone. Mary, his beloved spouse, had died giving birth to their daughter in a Florida hospital.

Bob and Mary had spent years building their family through adoption, believing every child deserved love. When they finally conceived, they were overjoyed. But tragedy struck when Mary went into premature labor during a trip to Florida.

Alone and grieving, Bob arrived at the hospital, where he met Meredith Sticks, an 82-year-old widow who volunteered there. She listened to his pain and helped him prepare to take his newborn home. But the challenges didn’t end there.

At the airport, airline staff refused to let Bob board with his four-day-old baby. With nowhere to go, he reached out to Meredith, who welcomed them into her home without hesitation. For over a week, she cared for them like family.

Bob never forgot her kindness. Years later, after Meredith passed away, he learned she had included him in her will. Touched by her generosity, he honored her memory by donating his inheritance to a charity supporting children in need—just as she would have wanted.
