Why Ellen DeGeneres Is Never Coming Back to America

Ellen DeGeneres has officially closed the chapter on her American life, making the UK her and wife Portia de Rossi’s forever home. The comedian, who initially planned just an extended stay after her talk show ended, found herself falling hard for British charm and has no plans to return stateside.

“It started as a getaway,” Ellen explained at a recent UK event, “but we quickly realized this is where we belong.” The timing of their move – coinciding with the 2024 US election results – proved fateful. “When we saw how things were going back home, our decision was made,” she said, alluding to both political concerns and threats to LGBTQ+ rights.

Life in the Cotswolds has been a revelation for the former daytime queen. Between tending to chickens, riding horses through the countryside, and exploring quaint villages, Ellen has embraced rural English living with gusto. “There’s a simplicity here that feeds your soul,” she shares. “The people are kinder, the pace is gentler – it’s like we’ve stepped into a more civilized world.”

The move also represents a fresh start after the difficult final years of her show. While acknowledging the workplace controversies, Ellen maintains she was unfairly portrayed. “Direct isn’t the same as cruel,” she notes. In her new UK home, surrounded by natural beauty and supportive neighbors, Ellen seems to have found the peace and acceptance she craved.
