Tragedy Strikes at Texas High School Track Meet: Teen Athlete Fatally Stabbed

What should have been a normal day at a high school track meet turned into heartbreak for the family of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The young athlete was fatally stabbed by another student during an argument over a seat at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

The incident happened on the morning of April 2, when police responded to reports of a fight between two students. Austin and the assailant, who had never met before, got into a heated dispute about seating at the event involving multiple schools. In less than 30 seconds, the attacker pulled out a knife from his backpack and stabbed Austin in the chest.

Responders tried everything to save Austin’s life at the scene, performing CPR and giving blood, but he died there. The tragedy shocked the community. Austin’s father, Jeff, said the fight began when his son asked the other student to leave the spot, and Austin did not know the attacker beforehand.

Jeff described arriving to find his son motionless, covered in blood. Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, witnessed the stabbing and tried desperately to help. Hunter’s emotional account revealed how he held Austin in his arms as he passed away.

The seating dispute escalated quickly, with harsh words leading to a deadly attack. Austin was known as a strong, dedicated student and athlete—a leader on his football team and well-loved by many. His father questioned the values of the student who brought a knife to the meet and ended his son’s life.

Police have arrested 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, who now faces murder charges. The Frisco Police Department expressed condolences and is working with the school district to support those affected.

The track meet was immediately canceled, and students were sent home. Investigators are searching for answers and making sure the community feels safe again.

Support for the Metcalf family poured in through a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised significant funds to help them during this heartbreaking time. Jeff honored his son as a determined young man with a bright future and expressed forgiveness for the attacker despite his loss.

Austin’s death is a painful reminder of how quickly life can be changed by a single moment of violence. His family, friends, and community mourn deeply, but his memory as a leader and beloved son will never be forgotten.
