Bruce Willis Now Living Separately as Dementia Advances, Says Wife

Bruce Willis is currently residing in a one-story home near his family to receive specialized care for his dementia, according to his wife, Emma Heming Willis. Speaking in a recent ABC special titled Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey, Emma described moving Bruce as one of the hardest decisions their family has faced since his diagnosis.

Bruce was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023, following an earlier diagnosis of aphasia. Since stepping back from public life, updates about his condition have been rare. In March, sources revealed that Bruce’s appetite had diminished significantly, causing weight loss—a sign his health was declining.

Family members shared that ensuring he eats enough remains a daily challenge. Emma has voiced her frustration over misinformation suggesting Bruce’s life lacks joy, emphasizing the importance of understanding the realities of dementia.

During the ABC special released on August 26, Emma revealed that Bruce’s new home, located near their family residence, was chosen to better accommodate his needs—especially regarding noise, which can negatively affect his condition. This change meant adjustments for their daughters, Mabel Ray (13) and Evelyn Penn (11), who could no longer have sleepovers at their family home.

Emma called this a difficult period of isolation for the family but also described the new home as a place filled with love, warmth, and laughter, supported by many friends who visit to bring joy.

Reflecting on Bruce’s early symptoms, Emma recounted his personality seemed quieter and more withdrawn, a stark change from his warm and engaging nature, which was frightening to observe. Despite the dementia, Bruce remains physically mobile and in generally good health, but his cognitive abilities and language skills are fading.

The family has adapted new ways to communicate with Bruce, embracing changes with love and resilience as they navigate this challenging journey together.
