Garrett Gee, the travel influencer known for documenting his life as a dad of three, addressed the controversy following a viral video of him throwing his seven-year-old son, Calihan, off a cliff at Lake Powell. The video, shared earlier in 2025, showed Garrett launching his son into the water below to help him overcome his fear of cliff jumping.
Despite the child’s safety, many viewers criticized Garrett as an irresponsible parent. Garrett acknowledged the backlash, telling PEOPLE, “If somebody came across that video and had only seen that video, then I agree with them.”
However, he urged critics to view the broader context, highlighting the careful and thoughtful approach he and his wife take in parenting. Garrett likened the experience to a baby eagle learning to fly, saying sometimes “a baby eagle needs to leave the nest… or be tossed out of the nest and learn HE CAN FLY!”
