Young Singles Are Abandoning Dating Due to Money Worries, Study Finds

Dating has always presented challenges, but a recent study reveals that today’s young singles are increasingly giving up on dating altogether — and the primary culprit is money. According to research from DatingNews.com and the Kinsey Institute, 43% of young singles in the US are going on fewer dates, with 37% cutting back on dating activities, and 33% citing the state of the economy as the reason.

The study found that financial pressures such as housing costs, debt, and economic instability weigh heavily on Millennials and Gen Z. Half of Gen Z respondents reported hesitation in starting or committing to relationships due to money, compared to fewer older generations.

Dr. Justin Lehmiller from the Kinsey Institute explained that inflation and the economy are causing many young adults to pause their romantic pursuits until they achieve greater financial stability, with some viewing cohabitation and marriage as a practical way to improve financial security.
