Farmer John’s rural road used to be peaceful. But as traffic grew, so did the casualties—his poor chickens were being run over daily.
He begged the sheriff for help. “These drivers are out of control!”
The sheriff tried warning signs—first for a school crossing, then for children playing. Neither worked. If anything, drivers sped up!
Finally, the sheriff gave up. “Put up whatever sign you want.”
Farmer John did. And miraculously, the chicken deaths stopped.
When the sheriff investigated, he found the secret: a crudely painted sign announcing:
“NU.DIST COLONY.”
Turns out, nothing makes drivers tap the brakes faster than the thought of an eyeful!
