The Case of the Kitchen’s Pink Intruder

There’s nothing like a mysterious pink blob to jumpstart your morning. Mine appeared without warning—a three-inch, pastel-hued oddity wedged in a kitchen corner. Was it mold? A bug nest? A prank? I ruled out candy (I hadn’t eaten any) and aliens (hopefully), then turned to the internet.

Responses varied from practical (“old caulk”) to apocalyptic (“toxic mold!”). My landlord, though, barely blinked. He removed it with a wipe, attributing it to “sealing foam from past repairs.” Case closed, but the lesson lingered: Homes have histories, and sometimes, their past repairs resurface—literally.

If you spot something similar, don’t panic. Document it, avoid touching it, and consult a professional. Most importantly, remember that houses, like people, sometimes reveal their secrets in the strangest ways.
