Woman, 27, Dies in Bali After Following Extreme Fruitarian Diet

Karolina Krzyzak, a 27-year-old Polish woman and former Leeds University student, died after years on a strict fruitarian diet while staying at a resort in Bali. She arrived at the Sumberkima Hill resort in December 2024 looking severely emaciated, with sunken eyes and protruding collarbones.

Hotel staff reported she was so weak upon arrival that a night clerk had to carry her to her room. Despite repeated offers for medical assistance, Karolina refused help and asked for fruit deliveries only. Over days, her health deteriorated rapidly until she was found unresponsive in her villa.

Karolina had struggled with anorexia and severe nutrient deficiencies linked to her diet, which consisted almost exclusively of raw fruits, neglecting essential proteins and fats. Experts warn this diet can cause osteoporosis, organ damage, and malnutrition.

Her friends and family mourn her loss and hope her story raises awareness about the dangers of extreme restrictive diets, especially among those vulnerable to eating disorders.
